hampi, heritage with nowhere to hide

what they asked
the designer wanted to see this look rooted in hampi and lambani crafts outside the studio. not clean, not curated, just thrown into the street. the brief was simple: show the garment as it is, let the space do the rest. no overstyling, no overthinking. just a visual collision between heritage and right-now.
what i did
i started pulling references that felt raw, slightly chaotic, rooted in the street not just for aesthetic, but for atmosphere. i was looking for visual tension dressed-up figures against cracked walls, moving traffic, cluttered backdrops. each image held something i wanted to lean into texture, contrast, stillness inside movement. together, the moodboard helped me understand how the garment could hold its own in a space that wasn't made for it.

the shootwe shot in the old market streets of ahmedabad. gujarati signage, auto-rickshaws, food carts, crumbling shutters. the chaos wasn't something to shoot around. it was the point. i let the street bleed into the frame and trusted the garment to hold its own against that noise. it did.

what i learnt
this was the first time i approached photography as direction, not just documentation. a location is a design decision. stillness reads differently when everything around it is moving. and the edit either flattens that tension or sharpens it most of the story lives in that choice.
